America asks us to be strong, to be independent. But Jesus modeled a different virtue: "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise."
Childlike neediness on God the Father is the model of maturity. As Christ followers mature, they grow in need of their Redeemer. The mentor, then, is more experienced in dependence on the Lord. They are simply experts in being weak.
Making disciples is a non-negotiable. Christ says, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…" The One who holds all authority has given a direct, intentional command to act. God doesn’t use the gospel to make a Christian and then set it aside to gather dust.
Christians have been called to a life of pursuit. Every fear surrounding this non-negotiable call to action can be diminished because Emmanuel, God with us, is not abandoning us to fulfill this call alone. Just as Jesus pursued our hearts in making us His disciples, He is now with us to the end of the age on our pursuit of discipleship.
Do you desire to follow God’s call on your life as a Christian to make disciples, but are unsure or fearful of what that looks like?
Join us February 23 & 24 to learn and grow together on this journey of discipleship. We will work through The Gospel-Centered Life by Robert Thune.
Friday, February 23 6:30PM - 9:00PM and Saturday, February 24 8:30AM - 9:00PM (Break from 2PM to 6PM)
